PREPARATION MATTERS

World Journalism Preparatory School offers middle school students in-depth opportunities of study through initiatives such as Algebra for All, College Access for All, Computer Science for All, and the Middle School Quality Initiative. Students receive extra support in ELA and Math. Our eighth-grade students take the Algebra and Living Environment Regents Exams and receive High School credit. 

With a seven-year program that follows students from 6^th through 12^th grade, WJPS students build long term relationships with staff and teachers who nurture in them the confidence to overcome challenges and aspire to college. Students enjoy a unique continuity of curriculum as they move from grade to grade.

• WJPS has an impressive 95% high school graduation rate for the Class of 2020

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES MATTER

Exposure to a wide-range of extracurricular and enrichment opportunities builds leadership, grows talents and interests and increases students’ confidence in their abilities to reach their goals. Opportunities at WJPS include Debate, Student Government, Ambassador Program, Arts Club, Model UN, Green Team, College Visits, Explorers Club with NYPD, Creative Writing Club, Video Gaming, Step Team, Anime Club, Spirit Club, and the after-school SONYC Program every school day.

Who is eligible to apply to WJPS for Middle School?

• Families can now list any New York City public middle school on their application!  
  • Zoned schools will continue to prioritize zoned students for seats. 
  • Most programs will also have a district priority, which means that seats will first be filled by students and residents of the district. 
  • If seats remain, students and residents from other districts will be considered

How does my child apply to WJPS?

Students apply to WJPS through the Department of Education's Middle School Application process . Your child's elementary school will let you know when the application process opens up and how to log in to your MySchools account. Private and parochial school students should contact the District 25 Family Welcome Center for an application.

When will I be notified if my child is accepted?

The Department of Education sends acceptance letters to the elementary school guidance counselors. You can also check your MySchools account.

What are class sizes?

Class sizes range range from 28 to 33 students

How many sixth grade classes are there?

We have three classes per grade. 

What are the logistics of sharing the building with another school?

There are three schools in the Adrien Block Campus: WJPS, IS25 and P233. P233 is a D75 school for disabled students and they are in the basement. IS 25 has classes on the first and second floors. WJPS has classrooms on the third and part of the second floor. All three schools use the gym, playgrounds, cafeteria and auditorium at separate times. There are different bell schedules, stair cases, entrances and exits. All three schools enjoy a warm and supportive relationship.

What is the uniform policy?

The school uniform is a navy, black or white shirt with the WJPS logo on it. The shirt may be purchased with the logo already on it, or the logo may be added to your own black, navy or white shirt. Dark pants are allowed, but no jeans. More details are on our website under the Parent tab.

What clubs and after school activities do you have?

The Department of Education provides a SONYC after school program that is run every school day. Student choice determines which clubs are running from year to year. Students can start their own clubs if they have an advisor and other interested students. Previous clubs have included an Arts & Crafts Club, Spirit Team, Green Team, Game Coding, Debate Club, Model UN, Ambassadors, and Game Coding. Sports are voted on by students and have included Step Team, Track and Rugby.
